Women are Prone to Gambling Addiction
It is not surprising that gambling is the favourite pass time for most people no matter the age, gender and income. But the main problem is that gambling causes addiction and leads to a lot of troubles for those who can’t control themselves while gambling and stop when it is needed.
83% of Women Gamble
According to the study held in 1975, 68% of men and 55% of women admitted that they gambled at least once or are addicted to gambling. Today the figures are not very promising because the percentage of men and women who gamble is 88 and 83 correspondingly. Thus the number of women who gamble has increased that was caused by the strong feminist movement.
New Jersey Council on Compulsive Gambling states that 25% of all calls that they receive are from female gamblers. Gambling addiction is very common for women and when we speak about gambling problems we must consider not only the loss of all the savings but also stealing and other crimes.
Nearly 50% of Gambling Addicts are Women
The results of numerous surveys held in the USA state that approximately 1.4% of the population have the gambling problems and nearly the half of gambling addicts are women. The most popular games among male gamblers are blackjack and poker while female gamblers prefer to play at video poker machines and slots.
The specialists say that it takes 10 years for men to become a gambling addict but for women this period is much shorter, about 3 years. Moreover, if there was a female addict in the family the chances that the girl from this family will become an addict are 4 times higher than those of men.
