Smoking Ban in Atlantic City

Atlantic City Considers Placing A Smoking Ban

A year ago Atlantic city casinos were up to set a smoking ban on all the casino floor. However, due to a recession in the number of players the offer was put aside and now only 25% of a casino floor is non-smoking. In fact, back in 2008, smoking was banned for two weeks, but this happened only by accident. The revenue losses during this small period have doubled according to most Atlantic city casinos.

Indeed, it’s almost imposible to name an industry that has not experienced a big decline in the number of customers and casinos are no exception. After a year the situation has improved and now the owners of Atlantic city casinos are thinking again about banning smoking on all the casino floors.

You may be wondering, how big is the decline to put aside the smoking problem? Well, in comparison to the beginning of this year, the revenue in Atlantic city casinos is down 15.1% and the number of casino jobs has decreased by 400.

According to the councilman G.Bruce Ward, the smoking ban could attract new customers, those who ignored casinos because of smoking. However, even such big casinos as those of the Trump Entertainment Resort are claiming that this is not a period for facing new negatives. Indeed, if casinos place a total ban on smoking the revenues will decrease and a part of gamblers will go elsewhere. However, smoking is a very important issue not to be ignored.
